Anna Belle Illien

Anna Belle Illien founded Illien Adoptions International in 1982 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit child welfare organization which has created permanent families for 3,000 legally abandoned homeless children from all over the world. Due to political changes worldwide which have reduced and almost eliminated intercountry adoption as an option for vulnerable children, she chose to expand services to vulnerable children in every category worldwide by becoming the Founder and serving as the Director of Foundation for Our Children whose mission is to provide services to children in their birth country who are growing up without families to be prepared for legal adulthood at age 18 and to become independent contributing adult citizens of their community. She has received numerous awards: Governor’s Award in the Arts from Governor Jimmy Carter in 1970, the Angel in Adoption Award in 2012 from the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute (CCAI), the Global Achievement Award in 2021 from Johns Hopkins Alumni Association and the President Joseph R. Biden Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022.
